Double/Imperial IPA Comparison

Two solid IPA's, Great Divide's Hercules Double IPA and Dogfish Head's 90 minute IPA. Both widely available in 12 ounce bottles.
Both pour a dark tan, russet color with the DFH a shade darker. The nose of both gives that hop character but less than you might expect for these two flagships. Both also give that hop sharpness on the front of the tongue, but mid mouth a malt character is present. At 10.0 and 9% ABV respectively they both drink smoothly belying the alcohol content.
Overall these two stack up as great examples of heavy hitting IPA's, the DFH in my opinion is just a little bit more balanced. To be fair, both of these were from 2012 bottling, almost a year old in the bottle. However, I think this shows the ability to cellar bold IPA's. a "freshness" freak might not agree, but to each his/her own.
